[CHARACTER INFO]
CHARACTER NAME: Hikaru Hitachiin
SERIES: Ouran High School Host Club
CHRONOLOGY: The end of Chapter 49
CLASS: A very, very... very tentative hero.

BACKGROUND: Hikaru and his twin brother, Kaoru were born with silver spoons in their mouths. Their mother is a famous Japanese fashion designer and their family is absolutely filthy with money, meaning that at no point in their young lives did either of the boys ever want for anything materialistically. While their mother didn't necessarily always do the smartest things where her sons were concerned and both parents were often away on business, their mother and father both loved the boys dearly.

The real problem they had wasn't their family life, but the very fact that they were born twins. Unable to be told apart by the world at large Hikaru and Kaoru retreated into themselves and for most of their childhood the only people they really interacted with on more than a basic level were each other. Adults and other children alike were pushed out of the Hitachiin bubble, and until they were in middle school the boys chased away other people with their less than friendly attitudes. They constantly went through nannies as small children, because very few wanted to stay and deal with the little hell raisers, and had no actual friends outside each other.

That is until Tamaki Suoh came waltzing into their lives.

Hikaru and Kaoru attended Ouran Academy, a very hoity-toity school for the obscenely wealthy where all the best teachers, facilities, and equipment was all provided for the students. Many of the parents of the school would network with each other through their children as well, and having the Hitachiins were often targets of kids whose parents wanted them to make nice with the twins. On top of that they were constantly playing this game with girls who liked them, pretending to be each other and proving that the girls wanted to date them based on their looks and not because they cared about either Hikaru or Kaoru as individuals. Needless to say they were pretty jaded when it came to their classmates.

When Tamaki first made his appearance in Japan he decided very quickly that he wanted to set up a Host Club, where he and other Ouran boys of his choosing would entertain the girls of the school through flirtatious advances and parties with elaborate themes. Tamaki became set on having the Hitachiin brothers be part of his club, and they agreed to join if Tamaki could learn to tell the two of them apart by more than just random guessing. During the month limit that the twins gave Tamaki to learn the difference between them, Tamaki harassed them daily, and while the twins initially claim they were getting bored of him, Tamaki delivers a speech about their contradictory nature and desires that managed to impress the two of them.

By the start of the next semester Hikaru and Kaoru had joined Tamaki's host club.

It was in the host club that Hikaru first began to learn to open up to people. While he was still very dependent on Kaoru, and the two were still inseparable Hikaru became friends with the other boys in the club as well as becoming more friendly to the other people in the school. That didn't necessarily mean he was ready to be friends with any and everyone that came along, but he could at least carry on a fun conversation with them without completely shutting them out the way he used to.

Things really began to change when a girl from a working class family, Haruhi Fujioka, appeared, and in a case of mistaken identity (or sex) and an unfortunate accident involving an expensive broken vase, Haruhi was forced into the Host Club. And that's when things really started getting wild.

While the boys always had their fair share of shenanigans before Haruhi stepped into their lives, the adventures got kicked up several notches as every member of the club formed some sort of special relationship with Haruhi. In the case of case of Hikaru and his brother, who were the two youngest members of the club at the time, they were in Haruhi's class and had extra time to spend with the girl and really strengthen their friendship with her.

Now as for all the adventures they had together? Well... being a rather episodic series the majority of them were packed full of pretty wacky hijinks that only affected the growth of one or two characters at a time, if even that. While their adventures did not have any impact on the world as a whole, throughout the course of their time with Haruhi all of the boys of the Host Club took small shuffling steps outside of their sheltered, rich kid life and began to open their eyes to more of the world. Having grown up in a pretty typically normal socioeconomic standpoint poor Haruhi was forced to deal with a group of manchildren as they took their first step into the real world and overreacted to every single aspect of it.

The biggest change Hikaru and the others went through was an internal growth from their interactions with Haruhi and each other. Friendships became stronger across the board, and Hikaru in particular began to slowly eke towards maturity, though he has a long way to go before he can actually be considered "mature". Beyond that, thanks to Haruhi and her ability to easily tell Hikaru and his twin apart as well as her ability to put up with most of their bullshit while still blowing them off when they took things too far, Hikaru was finally able to start really opening up to someone besides his own brother.

PERSONALITY: There's really no way to explain Hikaru Hitachiin without talking about his twin brother Kaoru. From a very young age Hikaru and Kaoru were an inseparable and unstoppable force of destruction. They were nightmare children to have to deal with, constantly getting up to all kinds of mischief and irritating, if not outright terrorizing their parents' friends and their own family. The only one that really seemed to be able to get the better of these two demon children was their grandmother who behaved worse than the twins themselves.

While the twins do have a naturally mischievous disposition, the fact that no one could tell them apart made their prickly nature even worse. The more people seemed to struggle telling them apart the more they withdrew into their own personal little two-man bubble. Even their own mother would pretend she was unable to tell the difference between her two sons, something the boys honestly believed she was unable to do, and this bothered Hikaru and Kaoru more than they truly understood. They wanted people to be able to tell the two of them apart, but at the same time had no desire to distinguish themselves from each other to the world at large. To the two of them it was obvious which one was Hikaru and which one was Kaoru, and they couldn't understand why no one else could tell the obvious difference. They became very cold and hostile to people in reaction to the hurt they felt at people's inability to not only tell the difference between the two, but people's assertion that no one would be able to tell them apart. On top of that one of the women who worked as their nanny for awhile turned out to be a con man that instilled the idea that the twins could not trust anyone else in the world outside of themselves, because people would screw them over first chance they got.

At the same time Hikaru and Kaoru were happy with their relationship the way it was. While there were frustrations at people who couldn't tell the difference between them it wasn't as if they had an issue with one another. While the differences between the boys were important to them, the fact that they were twins was just as important. With their rejection of the rest of the world and the strong feeling of union between the two boys they grew up having an unhealthy codependent relationship with one another.

What is your character like, in at least two paragraphs? What are their dreams, their fears, their general quirks and the issues that make them who they are, and does their personality shift in any way after or before the point you are taking them from? If they are from a different or alternate universe, or if their personality radically shifts due to events during the point in time that you are taking them from, how is their new personality different from their normal one?

POWER: [Non-canon] Illusions: The power to cast visual illusions on anyone in limited radius around him. The size of his "area of influence" will grow as he learns to use his powers, but will never exceed 1 km (0.6 miles) even when fully mastered. The illusions only affected people's sight, and will not at any point affect any other senses. To cast any illusions Hikaru needs to be concentrating on them, and a break in his concentration will disrupt the illusion and create flaws in it if not outright disband it altogether.

[CHARACTER SAMPLES]
COMMUNITY POST (VOICE) SAMPLE: How your character will be addressing the game at large. This sample should follow the same rough format as Cape&Cowl proper — a first-person, text/audio/video-based, intentional post to an internet community. Preferably more than a paragraph in length, this sample is to show us your character's unique voice. If you can make us laugh or outright scare the pants off us, you’re doing a good job!

LOGS POST (PROSE) SAMPLE: The name of the game is introspection, folks. This sample will both showcase how you will play in the logs community, and how well you understand your character’s motivations, hopes, dreams, quirks, etc. This sample should be a bit longer than your first, and, again, make us cry, make us laugh, or make us never want to meet your character in a back alley and you’re doing a good job!

Additionally, this sample should also be set in-game, so we can get an idea how you will play this character in a collaborative environment.

A note: In the cases of both first person and third person samples, we do NOT accept links to samples written at other games. If, however, you are a returning player applying for a character that you have played previously at Cape&Cowl, you are allowed to link to posts made by that character in this game.

FINAL NOTES:
Is there anything else about your character that you feel we should know, that isn't covered in any of the earlier sections? Inventory, status of health, etc? This field is optional.
